Request for school supplies…

John and Jan Bradley, who are instrumental in getting our supplies to Afghanistan, have the following request…

Dear all,
This fine young 1 LT wrote me recently begging for him for  school supplies.
I have written the MOE in Kabul to ask for his assistance in providing textbooks. No word yet.
Until then, wondering if you or any of your friends would send him a flat rate box of school supplies.
Could be as basic as the “marbled” composition books you can get at Walmart plus package of ball point pens.   If you will, spread the word.   Flat rate is about $12.50 plus whatever you spend on the contents.
Not much.
These e-mails come to me all the time—don’t know where they get our name, but we try to help whenever they write.  They are outstanding young men and women, as we all know.
If you spread the word to your friends at church, schools, etc., then we could get a lot of supplies to this young man.   He has a heart for these children.
Many thanks.
Jan
If you can find it in your heart to help, please do.  We are so fortunate to have so much in our country.  It is so hard to imagine people living with so little in this day and time.

We received the following update from John and Jan Bradley concerning the sewing machines that have been purchased with the donation money…

20 machines for projects in Dashte Barchi– Kabul-
80 machines for Wardak
40 machines set aside for Khairabad in Shindand District-for the Marshall PLan Charities Vocational Center) We have not purchased these yet, but will keep the funds set aside for them in our account.
We have paid $60.00 for each machine, plus about $40.00 for machine oil and needles.

We are so thankful for warm words of encouragement.

Hi Clara,

Your interview was great!  Several ladies in our office attend classes at Quilting Adventures (Willow Lawn is just down the street from our office) so I made sure that they saw your website and that they are one of your sponsors.

Please keep me on your email list and I will keep you in my prayers.

More help from a Texas Guild

We received the following  note from a Texas Guild, who wants to help.  Anyone, or any group can help.  If you can’t find a local quilt shop that participates, please contact Bella Fabrics, Carrollton, VA.

Our quilt guild wanted to collect sewing items/fabrics to be included in this humanitarian outreach. I watched I video on Utube put out by Checkers and it looked like we needed a packet with labels, plastic bags, etc. to make it easy when Checkers is sorting the items.

If so, can you send me a packet? Address below.

If not, we will sort the items into plastic bags and send in a box to the Checkers address given on the website.

This is an amazing outreach. Thanks for all you and the sewing/fabric industry are doing.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Carlton
